Fire door inspection software for building owners

Fire door apps are mostly made for inspection companies that survey hundreds of doors for clients. InspectKeeper is for the building's own side: the facility manager who needs every door inspected, the failures fixed and the record ready when the fire marshal asks.

Start free Free during early access. No card.

What you get

  1. A QR tag on every fire door, printed on your own printer
  2. The 13 NFPA 80 inspection points on any phone camera: no app, no logins
  3. A photo and a note for every deficiency, and an email the moment one is reported
  4. Failed doors stay flagged until someone marks them fixed, with what was done
  5. The annual inspection date per door, with a reminder before it is due
  6. Your door contractor's visits logged with company, technician and license
  7. Every door's record in one PDF for the authority having jurisdiction

How it works

  • Add each door assembly with its ID and location.
  • Print the tags and fix one to each door frame, on the hinge side.
  • Whoever inspects scans the tag and marks each of the 13 points.
  • Deficiencies come to you by email; the record of every door builds itself.

Between the annual inspections

Most fire door failures happen in the months between inspections: a door wedged open, a closer that stops short, a latch that no longer catches. Set a door to be checked monthly or quarterly as well, and the same tag records those quick walk-rounds.

Will the inspector accept it?

NFPA 80 asks for the annual inspection to be documented and the records kept for the authority having jurisdiction. Each InspectKeeper entry holds the date, the person and the result of every point, the PDF lists them door by door, and any inspector can scan a tag to see the door's history. Ask your local authority whether they also want a signed paper copy.

Questions

Who can do the annual fire door inspection?

NFPA 80 asks for someone with knowledge and understanding of the operating components of the door being tested. Many buildings use a door contractor; InspectKeeper keeps their record next to your own checks.

Does it work for fire dampers or rolling fire doors?

Each item has its own checklist by kind. Swinging fire doors use the NFPA 80 list; for anything else use the general kind and note what you checked.

Can I track other safety equipment?

Yes: fire extinguishers, AEDs, eyewash stations, first aid kits and emergency lights, each with its own checklist and schedule.

A plain-language summary, not a substitute for the standard. Your local authority having jurisdiction has the final word.
